FYI that the city council agenda for next Tuesday 2/19/13 is out.

4.1 Looks like the finishing touches on the Agenda 21 type Smoking Ban. First they came of the smoker and I said nothing because I don't smoke :-(

4.3 Looks like Brian is doing what the majority of the last council and our last city manger should of started doing 4+- years ago when the economic sh%t hit the fan. We really need to support Brian for actually having a spine and doing the right think to get the city closer to spending within its means. Something the majority of the last council and our last city manager apparently didn't have and apparently didn't want to do.

6.1 SUNSHINING OF PUBLIC SAFETY MANAGEMENT INITIAL NEGOTIATIONS PROPOSAL looks interesting.

6.3 Another opportunity to thank Brian for having a spine and using economic common sense that Chico has desperately needed for many, many years.

Concerning Feb. 19 2013 Agenda Item 4.1: 

Indeed, that is EXACTLY what they are doing!!  Michael Bloomberg (NYC Mayor) would be proud.  And considering where HE stands on Agenda 21, that's BAD! 

Remember well the famous admonishion of Martin Niemöller ("First they came for [this group].  And I held my peace because I was not of [this group].  Then they came for [that group].  And I held my peace because I was not of [that group].  Then they came for [the other group].  And I held my peace because I was not of [the other group].  And then they came for me.  And there was none left to speak.").
 
The "Hell March" down the Slippery Slope will not be stopped by inactivity on the part of those who disagree with it.  It can only be stopped by the actions of those who stand up & speak up against it.
 
They go after tobacco use, now, because smoking & other tobacco use is the proverbial "low hanging fruit" that always gets picked first.  Sooner or later, after they have exhausted all the easy pickings, & after they have thus progressively gained strength, they will go what even many who consider themselves sympathetic to smoking ordinances would consider extreme & an act of grave overreach.  But by that point, the proverbial frog will have been in the kettle for so long that he/she may not be able, any longer, to escape.  First, they go after tobacco, then they pursue (first voluntary, then mandatory) dietary restrictive ordinances, then they pursue yet other lifestyle curtailment policies that go not under either of the previous two headings.  It's time to nip this thing in the bud, before it grows worse & becomes unqualifiedly monsterous!

Time to WAKE UP, Patriots!!! Agenda 21 took a step forward at Feb. 19 2013 City Council meeting!

[C]ouncilors voted 4-3 to move forward with a comprehensive smoking ban in city parks, greenways, preserves and open space areas. Councilors Randall Stone, Sean Morgan and Mark Sorensen were the dissenting votes.

City staff will still have to draft an ordinance and bring it to council for final adoption. As recommended Tuesday, the ban would include the Bidwell Municipal Golf Course and smoking in vehicles.

Several members of the public spoke out, mostly in favor of a comprehensive ban.

At what point will people stand up & speak up for the liberties they claim to care about??

Smoking, the low hanging fruit, is, as we all know, the first to be targeted!  Thereafter, dietary choices with which the powers that be disagree.  The State of California, et al, are already going after the 2nd Amendment with a vengance!  At what point will enough FINALLY be enough??? 

Time to wake up!!
